From designers Burberry  to William Tempest, jewelled shades like emerald, wine and ruby are a key trend this fall. A great way to play up the jewel-toned ensemble is to opt for matching metallic eyeliner, like Leona Lewis did at the UK premiere of “Salt”. To keep it chic yet sophisticated without the disco flashback, just rim either the upper or lower lids, not both.

Here’s how to get her look:

1. Dust the entire lid with a neutral shadow.
2. Sweep upper lid and inner corner of the eye with a pale ivory shadow to open up your peepers.
3. Line lower lid using a metallic aqua liner (try a crayon liner, which gives intense pigments and goes on smooth).
4. Next, line upper lid with a black liquid eyeliner. Try this tip to make a clean line: Draw a series of dashes (instead of a single stroke) then go over them with a solid coat once they are dry.
5. Apply mascara to both upper and lower lashes for a glamorous look.

Madara’s Moon Flower Tinting Fluid is my favorite tinted moisturizer thus far. To shrug off the nagging feeling that Sun Flower  might be better suited for my skin tone, I tested it and found that it was a tad different from Moon Flower. Not bad different, depending on how you look at it.

The color match is near perfect to my current skin tone, which is more tanned than usual. I don’t think it’ll necessarily darken slightly lighter skin tones. It’s just that the golden/yellow undertones are distinct in Sun Flower while Moon Flower is pink-toned.

Sun Flower dries to a semi-matte finish, giving me less glow compared to the more hydrating Moon Flower. Regardless, it does not dry out my skin while feeling ultra lightweight. These are major plus points for oilier skin types and those who can do without the heavy feeling of foundation.

To my despair, the coverage that Sun Flower gives is also lighter but still sufficient to make my skin look naturally better. Instead of wearing it as a tinted moisturizer, I use it as a makeup base and it works well as one. The powder foundation that I apply over it grabs on better and I get the coverage that I want without piling on the product.

This is one product that works to conditon and also lengthen my lashes. I
tend to have weak, falling, lashes when I use mascaras on a regular basis.
After using this, my lashes ae stronger, less falls out like how it used to.
When it comes to lengthening my lashes, this took about 4 weeks before I see
it grew 1-2mm. It does work to lengthen, however, be patient with the
results yah. It works pretty well for my lower lashes, it’s kinda sparse and
short, as I’ve got eye sty before. the scar left sme portions with barely
any lashes. I’ve got lil baby lashes now at those empty/sparse areas on my
lower lash line. =D One thing to caution, the brush is a wee bit difficult
to use, sometimes it’s really hard to get the serum on the brush. It takes a
abit of practice/getting used to. Also, be careful not to overapply, as it
may irritate your eyes when too much of it enters. My eyes were sore on a
few occasions when I applied too much. I find that applying on the top
portion would suffice for me; I apply before i go to bed, so I guess as i
close my eyes the serum from the top portion gets distributed onto the
bottom lashes as well. Give me some time before I post some personal
photos,as it never occurred to me to take photos when I was using this
product back then (before the birth of Supermodel’s secrets).

I’m a beauty editor and yet it took me years to figure out how to apply eyeshadow that :

1. Wasn’t crooked (hello, mismatched eyes!).
2. Wasn’t too dark or blotchily blended (yes, I know “blotchily” is not a word).
3. Didn’t extend to the wrong, wrong, wrong upper reaches of my eyelids.

After years of seeing makeup artists in action and learning numerous eyeshadow tips and tricks, here are 10 favorite eyeshadow tips I wish someone had told me twenty years ago:

Secret #1: Blending is key
Ok, well I sorta knew this, but I wasn’t sure HOW TO BLEND. You use three different colors: The base, usually a very light taupe, a highlighter for the crease and a main color for the lid, but how to get them to look as if they merge into each other like the colors of a rainbow?

My secret: Start light then go darker. Brush the base color to the entire eye up to the brow bone (base is the lightest color), apply the lid color (the medium color) and THEN apply the highlighter (the darkest color). Also, don’t be too heavy-handed or you’ll have to start over.

Extra tip: Practice makes perfect. Play with your makeup a few days before a big event.

Secret #2: Choose shadows that make the color of your eyes pop
Gone are the days when beauty experts advised against blue shadow. Matching the color of your eye with a shadow actually brings the color out (think blue shadow on blue eyes). At the same time, contrasting colors make eyes pop too (think a deep jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes or gorgeous golds with blue eyes).

Secret #3: Never apply deep color to your browbone — unless you’re doing a cover shoot for Vogue
You don’t want the drama too much shadow brings. Apply shadow up to the browbone but don’t apply shadow ON the bone unless it’s a neutral color.

Secret #4: Highlighter can make or break your look
When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge. Get to close to the eye and you’ll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.

Secret #5: Set shadow with a great base
Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I’ve found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base, or primer. Almost everyone makes them but I swear by Urban Decay’s Primer Potion.

I apply Urban Decay Primer Potion at the beginning of the day and sweep my favorite Christian Dior shadow over it and the shadow stays on all day long with nary a smudge, even through hardcore workouts with my personal trainer. You cannot beat that.

Secret #6: Shimmer is hot, but plays up wrinkles
Shimmer makes eyes really pop, but it also highlights heavy lids, lines and wrinkles. If you don’t have wrinkled eyelids yet (I do and I don’t care!), try this great look for shimmer: create a “nude” lid, but apply a bit of gold shimmer to the browbone. Gorgeous!

Secret #7: Smokey is great, but keep it to the lid
Making up a smokey eye? Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline. Don’t extend color above the crease.

Secret #8: How to pair shadow with red lips
Remember the beauty rule “Thou Shalt Not Play up the Lips AND the Mouth.” If you’re going for dramatic red lips (never out of fashion), cover unsightly blue lines on lids with a concealer or shadow primer and then keep eyeshadow light.

Secret #9: Make eyes brighter with white
A dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of the eye near the tear duct will make eyes look brighter. You won’t believe how eye-opening this is. It works so great, I use this trick even when doing my makeup for work.

Secret #10: Go for color
I love going to Sephora and trying out different shades on my lids just for something different. Taupe and lavender look great on all eye colors. Also consider mixing shades if you bought a color that’s just too bold for you. Mixing an electric blue with taupe can turn out the most perfect color.

Step 1
Begin any makeup application with moisturized skin and conditioned lips (find a facial moisturizer and a lip balm you love and use them religiously). If you overdo it, simply blot the skin with tissue. Review your face — do you need more concealer or foundation? Here, you see a hard edge of foundation, with the rest blended out. The true test of a color match comes when you start patting and blending it out.

We put foundation over the eyelids; concealer under the eyes, and around the nostrils.

We use powder to take away the shine but leave a healthy sheen — just a bit on a large powder brush, swept around her entire face.

Step 5
On to the eyes: Aubergine shadow goes across the lid, from the lashline to slightly beyond the crease, where it fades away. I worked with a minimal amount of product on a large shadow brush. Just one shade of shadow — that’s it, for this look! Then a thin veil of powder sets and blends the edges. Note: As long as the shadow you use is a powder, you can go back and add more — even after it’s set with translucent powder — to get to the level of intensity you want. Then dust with translucent powder again.

We curl the lashes and apply mascara, top and bottom.

Step 7
Now the brows. They get groomed into shape with a spoolie brush. Any thin areas? Those are filled in with a brow pencil (taupe here), using little feather-like strokes. Then brows are brushed through with the spoolie again to soften and blend. Finally, a coat of brow gel keeps everything in place. Now that the eyes are done, brush away excess loose powder (applied in step #4) from under the eyes.

Step 8
To blush or not to blush? You could keep your face monochromatic and stop here — then her look would be all about the eyes. But a bit of blush takes her to another place — glowy, with a hint more shape. I apply a pink powder blush with a blush brush on the apples of her cheeks, then dust cheeks with powder to blend all the edges.

Step 9
So far, everything is subtle and tonally related. To stay in that mode as we move on to the mouth, I choose a soft lip color. I also opt for less definition of the lipline and decide not to use a lip pencil. Our model looks great in a pinky beige lip color, applied with a lip brush. A dusting of powder sets everything. The effect — a face that’s just colorful enough, but natural. (Note: Natural doesn’t need to mean neutral!) Before you are officially finished, review the face again. Do you need more blending? More color? When satisfied with your fabulous self, dust the entire face with the large powder brush — for a matte finish, put a bit of powder on the brush; for a dewy finish, leave the brush bare.

One Step Beyond
Sometimes one simple change can transform a face. Here, a more intense lip color adds amazing impact. All I did was go over the existing mouth (the pinky beige lipstick applied in the last step) with a brandy lip pencil, creating a stronger, more define mouth. The entire lip gets outlined and filled in with the pencil. Then I go over the pencil with a lip brush to make sure the color is blended and evenly placed. For extra insurance, I add a dab of lipstick in a matching tone on top of the pencil — just on the surface and in the center of the mouth. It add dimension to the color, and adds moisture, too. This one easy step takes you from day to evening, from casual to dressy, and from elegantly understated to intense!
